Category: Food Science; +2
Classification Type: EHRA
Primary Purpose of Position
Growing demands for food and energy due to population growth, rapid urbanization, changing diet and economic development have placed tremendous pressure on the environment, agriculture, and natural resources. Agricultural projections for the year 2050 indicate that farmers will have to produce more food and feedstock while mitigating environmental problems. This has resulted in the expansion of agricultural lands, and intensification of agricultural practices, which are major sources of increased soil erosion, water pollution, loss of biodiversity and habitat, and greenhouse gas emissions. Technology is becoming more prevalent in all aspects of life, and accordingly, CAES is investing in technologies to gain the knowledge and tools that will help the world construct crops that can thrive in our ever-changing environment. At the same time, technology will need to equitably benefit and be readily available so that small to medium farms will have access to adopt and provide value to their livelihoods. The appointment is open to the assistant professor rank, but the associate professor rank can be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants.
