Fully funded PhD position in modelling of induced and mining seismicity, University of Western Ontario, Department of Earth Sciences, London, Ontario, Canada🇨🇦
We seek a qualified and highly motivated individual to conduct innovative research in the area of induced seismicity. The position is to enhance and strengthen our research efforts in understanding induced seismicity in various settings. This is a part of funding led by the research group of Prof. Robert Shcherbakov (publish.uwo.ca/~rshcherb/) at Western University, London, Ontario, Canada in collaboration with industry partners.
The position assumes the development of multidisciplinary approaches to study induced seismicity in mines and other settings. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, statistical modelling of mining seismicity, development of stochastic models for induced seismicity, probabilistic earthquake hazard assessment and forecasting of seismicity, analysis of the source mechanisms of microseismicity. The successful applicant is expected to have an MSc degree in seismology/geophysics and strong computer programming and data analysis skills preferably in Matlab/Python. Previous research experience in modelling of natural or induced seismicity is desired.
The position is open immediately and the selection process will continue until the position is filled and the starting date can be flexible. The position is funded for 4 years. For more information, please contact Dr. Robert Shcherbakov (rshcherb@uwo.ca).
Prospective applicants are asked to submit electronically a cover letter, your Academic CV with a list of publications, transcripts, and a statement of research interests to Dr. Robert Shcherbakov (rshcherb@uwo.ca).
